Thirty years ago the odds were 1 in 2000 kids were diagnosed with Autism. 15 years ago, it was 1 in 150. Today, the Washington Post published an article by the CDC that says the autism rate today is 1 in 45. I am consumed with concern. Something I find very interesting is the breakdown in the demographics. Autism seems to be an equal opportunity disorder. So… it isn’t likely that it’s unhealthy food, unsanitary living conditions, unacceptable water quality, deficient schools, poorly educated parents, etc that are the cause. This is being caused by something that is prevalent in all walks of life. I have to wonder about the accepted norms of society and whether or not they could be the cause. I am heartbroken for our children – those with and those without exposure to Autism – because it’s looking pretty bleak for their children. It’s time to find out what we’re doing wrong and change. Even if it means a radical change in our own ways of life.
