Dog Poop Analogy

•

“You think too much.”  I have been told this numerous times.  I also feel too much.  And care too much.  Perhaps it’s my spaghetti brain that never quits or maybe I’ve been given a heart that bleeds for others so that I will be part of a change we need to see in this world.  I don’t know.  What I do know is that I have kids and nieces and nephews who are inheriting the world we leave them and I love them too much to hand them a gift of despair.  It’s like giving them pooper scoopers and baggies and plopping them down into a field of dog poop and saying “Clean up this mess.  And NO! You can’t have a puppy!”  How cruel.

What if the generations we are raising never uttered an unkind word because they knew how to communicate, expressed their feelings productively, and resolved conflicts respectfully?

What if the generations we are raising had no experience with the word stress because they spent their time on pleasurable and meaningful work and they were all responsible to themselves AND one another?

What if the generations we are raising lived to be 125 because the planet they lived on was clean and cared for and they spent their time in nature?

Why do we accept the crap that we are leaving our children?  Why am I shamed for “thinking too much?”  Why do we feel helpless to change things?

I am doing what I can to make a difference.  And I screw up every day!!!  But I’m not giving up and throwing in the towel.  I refuse to be part of a culture that puts our children in the position of someday maybe deciding NOT to have kids of their own due to the state of the world they live in.

Maybe it just feels too overwhelming.  I don’t know, but I can’t do nothing.  I will do my part to give them the puppy, not just the poop.
